Events Around Knighton

The Welsh Border Town Crier’s Competition takes place in Knighton on a Saturday in August. Criers from all over England and Wales gather for a procession through the town, led by Knighton Silver Band. The open air competion takes place behind the Norton Hotel.
The Knighton Horticultural, Floral and Handicrafts Show takes place on Saturday (August Bank Holiday weekend). A spectacular parade through the town, leads spectators to the Show Ground on Bryn-y-Castle and the Community Hall.
The Autumn Epic is a European-style cyclosportive 155km route that starts and finishes in Knighton. It takes place in October.
The Knighton Harness (trotting) Races are regarded as the start of the trotting season. The races, in May, are the first races of the year to be held on grass.
Vintage Sports Car Club (VSCC) holds an October Welsh trial, based in Presteigne. The Sunday hillclimb is at Cwm Whitton Farm near Knighton.

Sport Around Knighton

For a town with only 1450 inhabitants Knighton has an impressive range of sporting facilities and clubs. The cricket club (founded C1855), bowling club (1850’s), football club founded (1884), Teme Valley Hunt (1892), golf club (1913), rugby club (1976). Sharing a site with the primary school and available for public use is a small swimming pool (20m x 7.5m), squash courts, fitness room and hard play area. The town also has long established badminton and karate clubs.
